1. Whole Grains
Whole grains are good for your heart thanks to their high concentration of fiber. However, they are also rich sources of the vitamin B and iron that your gums need to stay strong. Look for whole grain breads, oatmeal, wild rice and barley.
2. Colorful Veggies
Carrots, spinach, sweet potatoes, peppers, green leaf lettuce and pumpkins are all great sources of beta carotene, which is a critical antioxidant that can keep your teeth strong. Look for diverse, brightly colored veggies to diversify nutrients and enjoy a healthier diet.
3. Crunchy Fruits and Vegetables
Biting into a juicy apple may be one of life’s simpler pleasures, but it is also surprisingly good for your teeth. Water-rich, crunchy fruits and vegetables massage your gums and rinse away the food debris that contributes to plaque formation. Pears, apples and celery are all good choices.
Milk products are among the best sources of tooth- and bone-building calcium. Aim for several servings of milk, cheese and yogurt a day. If you do not like milk or are a vegan, try almonds and dark, green leafy vegetables instead.
If you regularly reach for soft drinks, sports drinks and sweetened coffees and teas, you may be doing your teeth a great disservice. Drinking water instead cuts down on the amount of sugar in your diet and on your teeth and provides you with enamel-hardening fluoride instead.
